Elective Scheduling for 8th Grade Going Into 9th Grade

Dear 8th Grade Parents and Students,

The Scheduling Portal to make 2022-2023 elective choices will open on March 2nd at approximately 10 am and close on March 8th at 3 pm. Please sit with your child and discuss their interests and abilities. Select courses that fulfill graduation requirements. Electives are based on availability so indicate your top five choices in order of importance. Do not make separate top choices based on VPA or 21CL. Pick one #1, one #2, etc, no matter what category those electives are in. **You must complete your elective selection in the portal before March 8, but it is not “first-come, first-served.**

For example, #1=Art, #2=Business Apps (Semester) and #2 Personal Finance (Semester), #3=Choir, #4=TV Production, #5=Programming

Students should meet with their counselor to review the requests made on Parent Portal. Be sure to select carefully because there are no elective changes after June 1st.

Here is the list of electives: 2022-2023 Electives

The program of studies describes all of the courses: This is a draft version: Draft Program of StudiesHere is where the approved version will be posted: Program of Studies

If you wish to change your child's recommended World Language, you must submit a written request to your child's middle school counselor. Available World Languages are: Spanish, French, Italian, Latin, Mandarin. All beginning World Language courses are level one. No World Language changes will be honored after June 1. There are absolutely no changes to World Languages or electives in September.

If you have questions, please contact your current School Counselor directly.

Thank you,

Brian Glassberg, Supervisor of School Counseling
